Chapter 2: I’m just a normal girl, but I need your help
In a short small time that Zak had met Danni, the “Angel”, he had never forgotten about her. Today, he was going to the mall with his mom. What eleven year old boy goes shopping with his mom? Apparently, Zak Saturday did. He groaned for the twelfth time of the day, complaining to Drew, “Mom! I don’t wanna be seen shopping with my mom! It’s so embarrassing!” Drew rolled her eyes and said, “I’ll let you go if you stay outside and wait for me, ok?” Drew said. “Deal!” Zak said and ran out before she could change her mind. He stood outside the store, staring down at the ground as he waited for his mom. A familiar voice had caught his attention. “Mom, can I wait outside?” The voice of his Angel asked as he looked up to see her, the Angel who had saved him. His eyes widened as she talked with her mother and smiled before watching her mother go inside. She didnt seem to notice her yet and looked around, checking that his mother was still busy, before running over to her.
“Hey!!!” He called, getting the girl’s attention. Danni looked up at him and smiled slightly, rocking back and forth on her heels. “Hey. You’re Zak, the guy I rescued.” She said in a cheery tone, smiling brightly, her ice blue eyes sparkling. He smiled and said, “You remember me?” She said, “Yeah. How can I forget?” He blushed slightly at her comment, but regained himself and said, “Hey. How did you know my name?” She smiled and said, “That’s my secret. And I don’t stalk you. We just know about you.” Zak looked impressed. “Why did you help us?” She smiled and said, “I can’t stay here and answer all your questions. Why don’t we go have something to eat and a nice cup of ht coco?” His heart began to skip a beat as he thought to himself, ‘Not a date, just a discussion. Calm down, Zak.’ He said, “Sure. I’m hungry anyways.” She grinned and pushed a button on her communicator and said, Mom, I’m going to the food court with a friend of mines. I’ll meet you there, ok?” There was some reply Zak couldn’t catch. Danni smiled and said, “OK! Thank you! Love ya!” She turned to him, smiling. “OK. Let’s go.” He grinned and both raced to the food court.
Danni and Zak got some hot coco, fries, and pizza, sitting down and eating. Zak looked at Danni and said, “So, why did you help us?” She smiled and said, “Because my parents are scientists, like yours. They’re part of the Secret Scientists.” She smiled. :”It would make sense to help, wouldn’t it?” He said, “You’re one of us? Cool! Here, I thought you were an angel.” She smiled and said, “Nope. I’m just a normal girl.” He smiled as he took a bite of his pizza, looking thoughtful. He swallowed and said, “So, how did you know I was in trouble?” She smiled and said, “We’re good at tracking trouble and we needed help to defeat Argost. We couldn’t do it alone, so we asked for assistance. They told us about your family and we decided to give it a try. Just when we arrived, you were fighting the Chupacabras. I was riding on Wolf when I saw you get knocked off the cliff and I went to help you. It was just a coincidence.” She smiled. Zak said, “Well, you came just in time. If you weren’t there, I would’ve been dead long ago.”
She smiled and said, “It wasn’t really that big of a deal, Zak.” He said, “OK then. How about we get to know each other?’ She smiled. “Sure.” He grinned. “Ladies first.” Danni rolled her eyes, smiling and said, “Fine. I’m Danni Winter. I’m 11 years old and I have a little brother named Cody. I’m learning to practice my powers to tame the cryptids. My parents tell me I was born in the same year the Kur stone was found and they think I may help the one who will stop Kur if it is ever unleashed. They show that I have the ability to tame the weaker crytids and the fiercer ones can tell I’m different and the tamer ones trust me more.” She smiled. “I guess I’m similar to you.” He grinned and said, “Yeah. Probably. So you don’t have a boyfriend?” He thought to himself, ‘Let the answer be no….I’m begging for it…’ She smiled and said, “Nope. I’m single.” Inside, Zak was leaping for joy, but outside, he remained calm. “Wow. I’m single too.” They burst out laughing and it wasn’t long before a shadow towered over Zak. Danni stopped her laughing fit and Zak thought, ‘Uh-oh…’ He turned around to meet an angry Drew. “Where were you? I told you to wait outside the store for me! What would’ve happened if you were attacked?!” Zak said, “Mom! I was hungry and I just wanted to hang around with Danni. I’m sorry.” Danni said, “I’m sorry for not telling, Mrs. Saturday. I’ve made you worried about Zak. My apologies.” Drew seemed to calm down at Danni’s polite attitude. “It’s fine. I forgive you. Just make sure it doesn’t happen next time…”
Danni smiled and said, “It won’t, Mrs. Saturday!” Drew smiled and said, “You’re a sweet girl, Danni. Where’ your parents?” Danni said, “My dad’s back on the aircraft and my mom’s shopping around. I told her I was going to be at the food court with Zak.” Zak smiled and said, “Danni’s really cool! We’re just talking about each other to get to know each other more. She’s very nice!” Drew said, “I see…” Danni blushed a bit ad said, “I’m not that great, Zak…” He said, “Well, we are friends, right?” She smiled. “Definitely friends!” They grinned at each other and Drew smiled. “Well, I’m glad you both are getting along fine.” Danni smiled. “Mrs. Saturday, I actually came with my family to ask for you and your family’s help in assisting us to defeat Argost. I’m pretty sure you’ve encountered him on several of your adventures.” Drew looked thoughtful before replying, “We have battled him in many of our trips, but he keeps getting the artifacts before we do.” Danni said, “Maybe if we work together, we can defeat Argost! We would require your help since you and Mr. Saturday are experts in cryptology and your husband is a genius.” Drew smiled and said, “I’m sure Doc will help out. Maybe we’ll defeat Argost together.”
Danni smiled. “I’ll call my mother and my family will meet yours in 10 minutes?” Drew said, “That will be fine.” Zak said, “See ya, Danni!!” She smiled, waving and then ran off. Drew said, “Well, you’re excited.” He said, “Let’s go!” Drew gave a knowing smile and walked back to the aircraft with her son, where they’ll be meeting with Danni’s family and friends.
